Quantitative Research
A research method defined as testing theories with variables measured in numbers and using statistical procedures to check if predictions hold true (e.g., a survey on voter preferences analyzed with percentages).
Qualitative Research
A research method defined as building a holistic picture using words and informants' views, utilizing an inductive approach that starts with observations to build a theory (e.g., interviews on community experiences during floods).
Deductive Reasoning (Quantitative)
A reasoning process associated with quantitative research that begins with a theory and hypothesis, tests them using data, and seeks confirmation or modification of the theory.
Inductive Reasoning (Qualitative)
A reasoning process associated with qualitative research that begins with observation, identifies themes, develops concepts from detailed data, and ultimately builds a theory.
