Dipoles (2 Poles)
Every magnet has North and South poles; force is strongest at poles. Dividing a magnet creates smaller dipoles (both poles always exist)
Attraction & Repulsion
Like poles repel; unlike poles attract.
Inverse Square Law
Magnetic force is inversely proportional to the square of the distance between fields
Domains
Groups of atoms with their dipoles aligned and magnetic fields moving in the same direction.
The number aligned domains, determine determines what
strength of magnetic field
Unmagnetized Matter
Domains point in random directions, canceling each other out.
Magnetized Matter
External field pulls domains until they align in the same direction
Magnetic Induction
The process of making a ferromagnetic material magnetic by placing it in a strong external magnetic field or running electric current through it.
Outside the conductors
travel from negative To positive
Inside the conductor
Travel from positive to negative
