Electric Flux
The electric flux through any closed surface is equal to the charge within that area.
Gauss' Law
The integral of the electric field E over a closed surface is proportional to the charge enclosed by that surface.
Spherical Symmetry
A condition where the electric field behaves identically in all directions around a point charge.
Net Charge Q
The total charge contained in a metal shell surrounding a point charge.
Charge Density (ρ)
The amount of charge per unit volume within a charged object.
Insulating Charged Sphere
An insulating sphere that exhibits non-uniform charge density and has different electric field strengths based on the radial distance.
Electric Field Outside a Charged Sphere
E = Q / (ε₀ * 4πr²), where r is the distance from the center of the sphere.
Electric Field Inside a Charged Shell
The electric field inside a uniformly charged shell is zero.
Cylindrical Symmetry
A configuration in which electric fields behave uniformly along the length of a cylinder.
Line of Charge
An arrangement of parallel charged lines creating an electric field.
Infinite Charged Plane
An idealized plane with uniform charge density that has a constant electric field.
