Vocabulary flashcards covering the systems of units (CGS, FPS, MKS, SI), base units, and complimentary units including plane and solid angles.
Force
The physical quantity defined as mass×acceleration, or formulated dimensionally as t2m×d.
CGS System
A system of units where length is measured in centimeters (cm), mass in grams (gm), and time in seconds (sec).
FPS System
A system of units where length is measured in feet, mass in pounds, and time in seconds (sec).
MKS System
A system of units where length is measured in meters (m), mass in kilograms (kg), and time in seconds (sec).
SI Base Units
The seven fundamental units of the SI system: length (m), mass (kg), time (sec), thermodynamic temperature (K), electric current (A), amount of substance (mol), and luminous intensity (candela - cd).
Plane Angle (dθ)
A complimentary SI quantity measured in radians (rad) and defined by the formula dθ=rds.
Solid Angle (dΩ)
A complimentary SI quantity measured in steradians (sr) and defined by the formula dΩ=r2dA.
Radian (rad)
The complimentary unit for plane angles, related to degree measures such that 90∘=2πrad, 180∘=πrad, and 360∘=2πrad.
Steradian (sr)
The complimentary unit used in the SI system to measure solid angles (dΩ).
