Dominant Factor in High Pressure Piping Design
Safety and adherence to the required code.
Steam Separators
Devices used to separate moisture from steam, available in three types: centrifugal, baffle, and cyclone.
Feedwater Heaters
Equipment used to heat boiler feedwater, categorized into two main types: open and closed.
Boiler Horsepower
The equivalent of evaporating 34.5pounds of water at 212∘F in one hour.
Enthalpy
The total heat content in sensible heat and latent heat.
Saturated Steam
Steam that is in contact with the water from which it is generated.
Back Pressure Valve
A valve used on a feedwater line, on the discharge of a steam turbine, or on the discharge of an ammonia line.
Converter (Heat Exchanger)
A device used for heating fluid media, heating air, heating oil, or heating steam.
Tube Sheet
The plates into which the tubes are rolled in a fire tube boiler.
Minimum Preheat Temperature
The required minimum preheat temperature of 50∘F for welding.
Seal Welds
Welds that must entirely cover the exposed threads.
Welding Records
Documentation maintained for welding operations, including WPS, PQR, WPQ, welder stamps, and welding logs or maps.
WPS
Welding Procedure Specification.
PQR
Procedure Qualification Record.
WPQ
Welder Performance Qualification.
