Glycolysis:
Anaerobic process to convert 1 glucose into 2 pyruvate
Overall Process of Glycolysis:
1 glucose + 2 ATP - 2 pyruvate + 2 NADH + 4 ATP
- Net gain of 2 ATP
RBC’s use this for their source of energy
- “Pizza delivery man”
Major intermediate molecule:
G3P
Glyceraldehyde - 3 - Phosphate:
Before this molecule, we put in energy
After this molecule, we get energy out
Overall Reaction of Citric Acid Cycle:
1 pyruvate - 3 CO2 + 1 ATP + 4 NADH + 1 FADH2
- Happens twice per glucose molecule
3 Carbon Molecule (Breaking down Pyruvate):
Loses CO2
Produces NADH
Adds Coenzyme A
- New molecule is called Acetyl Co A
