General Military Course (GMC)

The first half of the four-year AFROTC program (freshman and sophomore year) focusing on military leadership, discipline, and basic Air Force information.

Professional Officer Course (POC)

The second half of the AFROTC program (junior and senior year) focusing on officer development, leading the GMC, and performing Wing operations.

Field Training (FT)

A summer training and evaluation experience at Maxwell AFB in Alabama between sophomore and junior years that determines potential for entry into the POC.

Discrimination

Any action that unlawfully or unjustly results in unequal treatment of persons or groups based on race, color, gender, national origin, religion, age, and, if civilian, handicapping conditions.

Sexual Harassment

A form of gender discrimination involving unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature.

Maltraining

Any practice by an instructor or staff member involving a trainee or student with no reasonable connection to a course training objective that recklessly or intentionally causes physical, emotional, psychological, or financial harm.

Hazing

Any conduct whereby Service members or DoD employees, regardless of rank and without proper military purpose, cause another Service member to suffer or be exposed to activity which is cruel, abusive, humiliating, oppressive, demeaning, or harmful.

Basic Cadet Squadron (BCS)

A squadron within the Personnel Group composed of first-year cadets (AS100 level) learning the fundamentals of military and AFROTC life.

Basic Cadet Leadership Squadron (BCLS)

A squadron composed of second-year cadets (AS200), three-year program cadets (AS250), or AS500 cadets preparing to compete for an Enrollment Allocation and attend Field Training.

Military Decorum

The manner in which one carries oneself with appropriate etiquette and propriety, founded on military customs and traditions.

Military Bearing

A sense of duty, urgency, responsibility, tact, and discipline while acting as an ambassador for the Air Force and exemplifying core values.

Custom

A social convention stemming from tradition and enforced as an unwritten law.

Courtesy

A kind, polite, considerate behavior extended to honor a person or thing.

Start of Business (SOB)

The official start of the ROTC working day at 0800 hours.

Close of Business (COB)

The official end of the ROTC working day at 1630 hours.

Practical Military Training (PMT)

Sanctioned military training required for AFROTC cadets, including PT, LLAB, and AS Class, limited to up to six hours per week.

Gig Line

The alignment formed by the button front edge of the shirt, the outside of the belt buckle, and the edge of the trouser fly.

Security Package

The mandatory set of two forms of ID (such as driver's license, UCF Student ID, or CAC) along with the Cadet Medical Card required at all AFROTC activities.

Flying Knights

The official designation of the 159th Cadet Wing at the University of Central Florida, founded on 25 January 1972.

Cadet Wing Commander (CW/CC)

The senior ranking cadet in the Cadet Wing who reports to cadre and monitors the overall conduct and activities of the wing.

Cadet Wing Deputy Commander (CW/CD)

Cadet officer who reports to the CW/CC, assumes command in their absence, and assembles the wing for formations.

Operations Group Commander (OG/CC)

Cadet officer responsible for oversight of the Practical Military Training Squadron and Planning Squadron.

Personnel Group Commander (PG/CC)

Cadet officer providing oversight to the BC and BCL Squadrons and the Alumni Association.

Mission Support Group Commander (MSG/CC)

Cadet officer providing oversight to the Logistics and Readiness, Recruiting, and Financial Management Squadrons.

Inspector General Commander (IG/CC)

Cadet officer providing oversight to Standards and Regulations, Drill Training, and Inspection Agency, and maintaining standardization of uniform and military standards.

Operational Camouflage Pattern (OCP) Uniform

The standard daily military utility uniform consisting of camouflage coat, trousers, Coyote-Brown undershirt, belt, boots, and patrol cap.
