Culture
The set of beliefs, practices, and symbols of a group, such as food, traditions, language, and religion.
Society
A group of people living together and sharing a culture.
Human Cultural Variation
Refers to the differences in social behaviors among cultures, focusing on "WHAT people do" (e.g., different foods, religious practices, festivals), which can happen even within the same community or barangay.
Social Differences
Refers to inequalities or categories in society, focusing on "HOW people are grouped" (e.g., rich vs. poor, gender roles, age groups).
Social Class
A social category based on wealth, job, and education.
Gender
A social category with roles based on sex.
Age (Social Category)
A social category based on societal expectations for young versus old.
Social Change
Major changes in society's structure, including family systems, education, and economy (e.g., K-12 Program, online learning, e-commerce growth).
Cultural Change
Changes in values, beliefs, and lifestyle (e.g., new slang like Taglish, fashion trends, global influences).
Political Change
Changes in government, laws, or leadership (e.g., elections, new laws, shift from monarchy to democracy).
Technology (Driver of Change)
A driver of change that makes communication fast and global, affecting social life (communication) and culture (trends, ideas).
Laws (Driver of Change)
A driver of change that can force change in society, such as women's rights laws.
Overlapping Changes
Changes that are both social and cultural (e.g., online classes, which alter social interaction patterns and create new cultural habits).
Political Identity
How a person identifies in politics (e.g., activist, liberal, conservative), influenced by family, education, and experiences; acts as a "lens" through which an individual views issues.
