Molecular Polarity
The overall unequal distribution of electronic charge in a molecule due to the presence of polar bonds and the shape of the molecule.
Polar Bonds
Bonds between atoms with a significant difference in electronegativity, resulting in an uneven distribution of electron density.
Nonpolar Molecule
A molecule that has symmetric molecular geometry and no unshared electrons, resulting in an overall neutral charge distribution.
Symmetric Molecule
A molecule that has the same arrangement of atoms on both sides of a central atom, resulting in a balanced charge distribution.
Polar Molecule
A molecule that has an asymmetric molecular geometry, either due to the presence of lone pairs of electrons on a central atom or different atoms with different electronegativities bonded, resulting in an overall uneven charge distribution.
Electronegativity
The ability of an atom to attract electrons towards itself in a chemical bond.
Melting Point
The temperature at which a solid substance changes into a liquid state.
