Anorexia
An eating disorder characterized by the refusal to maintain a healthy body weight and an intense fear of gaining weight.
Bulimia
An eating disorder involving episodes of binge eating followed by purging to prevent weight gain.
GI Tract Disease
A hereditary condition often associated with eating disorders, where family members may share patterns of disordered eating behavior.
Lanugo
Fine, soft hair that may develop on the body of individuals suffering from anorexia as a response to malnutrition.
Disordered Eating
A range of irregular eating behaviors that may or may not warrant a diagnosis of a specific eating disorder.
Delirium
An acute disturbance characterized by confusion, disorientation, and cognitive dysfunction.
Dementia
A chronic condition characterized by a decline in cognitive function, memory, and social abilities.
Neurocognitive Disorder
A group of conditions involving a decline in cognition and functioning due to brain damage or disease.
Factitious Disorder
A disorder where a person deliberately produces or exaggerates symptoms for attention and sympathy.
Malingering
The intentional fabrication or exaggeration of physical or psychological symptoms for external gain.
Cholinesterase Inhibitors
Medications used to improve cognitive function in Alzheimer's disease by increasing levels of acetylcholine in the brain.
Tau Proteins
Proteins that, when abnormally deposited, are associated with neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's.
Huntington's Disease
A genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain, affecting motor control and cognitive abilities.
Serotonin
A neurotransmitter that plays a key role in mood regulation and is often implicated in eating disorders.
OCD
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, a mental health condition that can co-occur with eating disorders and influence compulsive eating behaviors.
