Measures of Occurrence: Prevalence + Incidence
Prevalence: the number of people who are “currently” experiencing an event or outcome at a specific time point (a snapshot in time)
Measures the ”burden of disease” in a population
Incidence: the number of people who experience a new event or outcome during a particular interval of time (leads to a rate)
Measures the risk of getting the disease or experiencing the event over a specific timeframe
Only calculated based on persons at risk of experiencing the event (i.e., biological males would not be included in denominator for pregnancy risk)
