Il gerundio casuale
We use the gerundio casuale to express the reason for something
they work as a kind of alternative to sentences with perché/dato che/visto che/siccome ero
esempio: Siccome ero stanco sono - Essendo stanco, sono andato a dormire presto
Il gerundio modale
We use the gerundio modale to express the way we do something (that is, come, in che modo)
Often translates too “by …ing’

Il gerundio temporale
We use the gerundio temporale to indicate the moment when something happens (that is, quando). The actions happen at the same time.
You often translate it with ‘as/while’
Guardando il progamma mi sono accorta che la cultura italiana mi affascina
Il participio passato
We use passato to replace full sentnece in the passato prossimo, trapassato prossimo or futuro composto. Usually relates to an event that has recently finished or will be finished. The subjects may not be the same .
Ending of participio passato follows the gender and number of the object (if followed by one)
The gerundio and participio passato with pronouns
If there is a pronoun (direct, indirect, reflexive) we attach it to the gerund or past participle (the participio rarely uses pronouns)
