Relationality
The ability to establish and to maintain healthy relationships (all 3 types of relationships).
Disordered Affections
Loving things (wealth, power, pleasure, status, possessions) or creatures (people, pets, self) more than God, effectively turning good or neutral things into false idols or "God things" placed in the highest esteem.
Culpability
Guilt or fault.
Contrition
Sorrow or regret for sin.
Ultimate Failure of All Sin
A failure to love God.
Curvatus in se
"Curving in upon oneself."
Sin (Saint Augustine's Definition)
An inordinate liking for things, or turning from the higher good to the lower good.
Grave Sin
Sins that involve serious matters.
Social Sin
A type of sin committed at a corporate or institutional level, such as when a club or civic group refuses to allow people of a certain race, ethnicity, or skin color to join.
Personal Sin
A type of sin committed when an individual, of their own free will, chooses to commit a wrong action (e.g., lying to loved ones).
Venial Sin
The type of sin which weakens the sinner’s relationships with self, others, and God, and weakens the sinner’s ability to resist more grave sins.
Mortal Sin
A sin that completely severs a person’s relationship with God, requiring the sinner to have full awareness of the seriousness of the action and its damage, yet follow through with it anyway.
