1/14
A set of vocabulary flashcards reviewing states of matter, particle arrangements, kinetic energy levels, density, and categories of elements from the periodic table.
States of Matter
The physical forms of matter, which include solids, liquids, and gases.
Solid Structure
An atomic or molecular arrangement where particles are closely packed in a fixed arrangement.
Liquid Structure
An atomic or molecular arrangement where particles are close together but can move around each other.
Gas Structure
An atomic or molecular arrangement where particles are far apart and move freely.
Solid Kinetic Energy
Low kinetic energy state where particles vibrate but do not move freely.
Liquid Kinetic Energy
Medium kinetic energy state where particles can move around each other.
Gas Kinetic Energy
High kinetic energy state where particles move rapidly and freely.
Density
A measure of how much mass is in a certain amount of space.
Honey
A substance that is more dense than dish soap.
Oil
A substance that is less dense than water and floats on top of water.
Ice
Solid water that floats on liquid water because it is less dense than liquid water.
Metals
Elements that are typically shiny, malleable, ductile, and good conductors of heat and electricity.
Nonmetals
Elements that are generally not shiny, brittle, and poor conductors of heat and electricity.
Metalloids
Elements that have properties of both metals and nonmetals.
Rare Earth Metals
A group of 17 elements known for their unique properties and importance in modern technology.
