PIES
An acronym standing for Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, and Social factors of health and well-being, which is a guaranteed question topic on the exam paper.
Lifestyle Factors
Factors influencing health and well-being that comprise diet/nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and alcohol, smoking, or drug use.
Environmental Factors
Factors influencing health and well-being that comprise pollution, access to green spaces, safety, and quality of housing.
Social Factors
Factors influencing health and well-being that comprise family/friends, education, employment, and housing/living conditions.
Individual Factors
Factors influencing health and well-being that comprise age, genetics, personality, and physical or mental abilities.
Physical (PIES)
The dimension of health relating to the physical body, medical aspects, and energy levels fluctuating up and down.
Intellectual (PIES)
The dimension of health relating to cognitive processing and mental growth, such as learning new facts and skills.
Smoking Effects
Physical effects include being too slender, eating less, yellow fingers, and smell of smoke; emotional effects include feeling hooked, angry, and experiencing withdrawal symptoms.
Pollution Effects
An environmental factor that physically impacts health by leading to lung issues.
Education Effects
A social factor that intellectually impacts individual health and well-being through learning new facts and skills.
