withdraw med from vial steps

  • assemble syringe without touching patient parts

  • push barrel back and forth a couple times

  • Prepare vial

    • If it's a suspension, roll between hands to mix

    • Remove seal on top of vial

    • Cleanse rubber stopper with antiseptic wipe and airdry

  • draw dose amount of air in syringe

  • insert syringe in middle of rubber on vial at 90 degrees

  • keep needle in airspace and inject all air from syringe

  • turn vial upside down with needle in fluid

  • draw desired amount

  • Gently tap syringe to allow air bubbles to rise to top and dissipate

  • Push plunger gently to push air from bubbles back into vial

  • Return vial to upright and withdraw needle

  • put safety device on needle

  • remove needle and replace with new one
