how does an balence tab work and what does it do
reduces the force required to move a control surface by moving in the opposite direction. The linkage automatically moves it when the control surface moves. Often combined with trim tabs
how does a anti servo tab work and what does it do
work in the same manner as balance tabs except, instead of moving in the opposite direction, they move in the same direction as the trailing edge of the stabilator. In addition to decreasing the sensitivity of the stabilator, an anti-servo tab also functions as a trim device to relieve control pressure and maintain the stabilator in the desired position
how does the trim tab work and what does it do
Trim tabs, found attached to the control surface trailing edge, are used to adjust the control surface position in order to ‘minimize’ or ‘neutralize’ the input from the pilot. Usually, this is done to maintain the aircraft in straight and level flight, although it can be used with any change in control deflection.
What size do you need for certain turnbuckles?
common dia is 0.040, some reg. 0.057 minimum
what are the primary flight controls
ailerons, rudder, and elevators
what are secondary controls
flaps, slats, spoilers.
what is a primary flight control stop
With a control cable properly rigged, the flight control should hit its stops at both extremes prior to the flight deck control. This is also known as spring-back.
If the final alignment and adjustment of a system are correct, it should be possible to withdraw the rigging pins easily. Any undue tightness of the pins in the rigging holes indicates incorrect tensioning or misalignment of the system.
what control is for longitudinal/roll
ailerons
what control is for lateral/pitch
elevators
what control is for vertical/ yaw
rudder
Correct number and crimping process for NICO Press fabrication.
3 crimps, middle, near 100p, hear end
Helicopters – What is a swash plate, what does it do, how is it connected?
swash plate connected by rod/ tube system
What are witness holes?
Witness holes verify thread safety
why do we do Independent Inspection?
for dual confirmation of safety
How do you tell if a turn buckle is in safety?
no more than 3 threads can be exposed, on Initial install, don’t screw, in 4+
How do you determine if a rod end is in safety?
ends are flared
What is flight control flutter and how is it corrected?
a vibration/oscillation in the control surface. to prevent this, the cg should be FWD the center of lIft. corrected W/ balance weights.
what is the difference between a “flexible” cable and a “Non-Flexible or Ridged” cable
Flexibility / type is determined by number of strands - 7x7 Is rigid, 7× 19 is Flexible. the cross section illustrated # of strands/ type .
