What are the subatomic partials?
Proton, Neutron, electron
What is mass number equation?
protons + neutrons
What is the definition of a chemical formula?
symbols and numbers of each element in a compound
What is a Ionic Bond?
1 or more electrons are given to or excepted an other atom
What is a covalent bond?
Electrons are shared between two atoms (Very strong)
What makes 1 atom?
1 oxygen, 2 hydrogen
Where are covalent bonds?
In between the 1 oxygen and 2 hydrogen
Where is a hydrogen bond located?
In between the water molecules
Cohesion
When water molecules stick to other water molecules with hydrogen bonds
Adhesion
When water molecules stick to another surface
Capillary Action
Water moves along a surface (adhesion) and pulls other water molecules along (cohesion)
Surface Tension
A form of cohesion that causes the surface of water to resist rupture
Universal Solvent
Water can dissolve many substances (because it is polar)
High specific heat
It takes a lot of energy to raise the temperature of water
Hydrophilic
Water loving! Substance easily dissolves in water
Hydrophobic
Water fearing! Fearing substance does not dissolve in water
