What are plant hormones?
chemical substances produced in small quantities in one part of an organism and then transported to another part to elicit a response
What do Brassinosteroids do?
elongation, cell division, bending of stems, delayed senescence, reproductive development
Where are brassinosteriods found?
in algae
Where are oligosaccharins found?
plant cell walls along with cellulose
What do oligosaccharins do?
attacks pathogens, sacrifices cells at infection site
Where is Ethylene found?
naturally produced in plants
What does ethylene do?
ripens fruit, stops lateral buds from forming
Where are abscisic acid found?
involved in fruit abscission in some plants
what does abscisic acid do?
growth regulation, important for dormancy, stress responses, and stomata control
Where are gibberelinns found?
in certain fungi
what do gibberellins do?
effects stem elongation, quickens seed germination
What does Auxins do?
increases plasticity of plant cell walls, elongation of stems(bends away from light)
What are the main effects of auxin?
controls plant orientation, promotes root growth and branching of roots
What do cytokinins do?
promote cytokinesis by increasing mitosis = more cells
what are the effects of cytokinin effects?
delays leaf senescence
What do strigolactones do?
helps with auxin, inhibits lateral buds
cytokinin
moves up from roots, inhibits lateral roots, promotes lateral buds
auxin
moves down from growing tip, promotes lateral roots, inhibits lateral buds
Abscises Acid
Prevents - growth, promotes - dormancy
Ethylene
helps defense fruit ripening
Oligosccharins
aid defence
brassionosteriods
have many effects
gibberellins
aid in growth nutrient use
strigolactones
stop axillary bud growth
What is phototropisms?
directional growth responses,
