Eukaryotic
A type of cell with a defined nucleus enclosed by a membrane, containing DNA.
Prokaryotic
A type of cell without a defined nucleus; the DNA is free-floating within the cell.
Cell Wall
A rigid outer layer of a plant cell that provides structure and protection.
Central Vacuole
A large storage organelle in plant cells that holds sap and provides rigidity.
Chloroplast
An organelle in plant cells that conducts photosynthesis and contains chlorophyll, giving plants their green color.
Cytoplasm
The jelly-like substance within a cell that contains organelles and is enclosed by the cell membrane.
Mitochondria
The powerhouse of the cell; involved in energy production through respiration.
Ribosomes
Cell organelles that are the site of protein synthesis.
Plastids
Organelles in plant cells that store pigments and are involved in the synthesis and storage of food.
Protoplasm
The living content of a cell, including cytoplasm and organelles, excluding the cell nucleus.
