Frontal Bone
A skull bone located on the anterior and superior portion of the skull.
Parietal Bone
A skull bone located on the superior and lateral sides of the skull.
Temporal Bone
A skull bone located on the lateral aspect of the skull, associated with the styloid process, mastoid process, and external acoustic meatus.
Occipital Bone
A skull bone located at the posterior and inferior base of the skull.
Sphenoid Bone
A cranial bone listed among the primary bones of the skull in Figure 5-3.
Ethmoid Bone
A cranial bone listed as part of the skull anatomy in Figure 5-3.
Zygomatic Bone
A facial bone that forms the cheek and connects with the zygomatic arch.
Maxilla
The facial bone of the skull that forms the upper jaw region.
Mandible
The lower jaw bone of the skull.
Nasal Bone
A skull bone that forms the bridge of the nose.
Lacrimal Bone
A small facial bone of the skull located near the anterior orbit and nasal region.
Palatine Bone
A skull bone listed among the bones in Figure 5-3.
Vomer
An inferior nasal skull bone listed in Figure 5-3.
Coronal Suture
A skull suture located between the frontal bone and parietal bones.
Squamous Suture
A skull suture joining the temporal bone and the parietal bone.
Lambdoid Suture
A skull suture located along the posterior aspect of the skull.
Sagittal Suture
A skull suture line joining the parietal bones along the midline of the skull.
Zygomatic Arch
A bony arch on the lateral side of the skull formed in the facial and temporal region.
External Acoustic Meatus
An ear canal bone opening located on the temporal region of the skull.
Styloid Process
A pointed bone marking projecting downward from the temporal bone.
Mastoid Process
A prominent bony projection located on the temporal bone posterior to the external acoustic meatus.
Mandibular Process
A bony process structure associated with the mandible.
