OT Process Sequence
The sequence consisting of Referral/Screening to Evaluation to Intervention to Targeted Outcomes.
Fluidity of OT Process
The dynamic nature of evaluation and intervention requiring OTP's to critically think about client's needs and task demands.
Plan of Care (POC)
The clinical plan updated through frequent collaboration between OT's and OTA's as client's needs change.
OTA Service Competency
The proficiency an OTA must demonstrate according to state regulations during collaborative practice.
Screening/Initial Interview
The evaluation stage that includes an occupational profile and analysis of occupational performance.
Occupational Profile
A core component gathered during the screening/initial interview procedure.
Analysis of Occupational Performance
An evaluation component completed during the screening/initial interview stage.
Identifying a Frame of Reference
An evaluation procedure step focused on knowing which evaluation procedure to use.
Comprehensive Evaluation
The step involving a structured interview, administering tests/tasks, observing, and gathering data necessary to plan treatment.
Standardized Tests
Tests that follow strict protocols or a set of administration procedures.
Nonstandardized Tests
Tests that are more subjective and often have no specific instructions for administration, scoring criteria, or result interpretation.
Data Analysis
The evaluation stage where practitioners identify life roles, diagnose role dysfunction, and develop a list of problems and assets.
Role Dysfunction
The diagnosis determined during data analysis after identifying life roles, problems, and assets.
Developing a Treatment Plan
The process of selecting objectives and methods based on patient goals, problems, assets, life roles, needs, values, and environment/context.
Intervention Planning
Planning based on client goals, the OT's analysis of performance deficits, and the development of the treatment plan.
Objective and Measurable Goals
A required element of an effective intervention plan that includes a specific time frame.
Theory and Current Evidence
The foundational basis required for OT intervention within an effective intervention plan.
Mechanisms for Service Delivery
A statement describing intervention services/types, frequency, and duration of sessions in an intervention plan.
Box 4.3 (page 51)
Textbook reference containing questions to ask while selecting a treatment method.
Reevaluation/Revision of the Plan
Crucial collaborative process between OT and OTA where treatment approaches change if the program is not helpful or meaningful to the client.
Discharge Planning
A process that starts at the initial evaluation and continues throughout the treatment plan.
Discharge Planning Team Considerations
A team effort determining needs for assistive devices/mobility equipment, caregiver/community support, and patient needs.
Termination of Treatment
The conclusion of occupational therapy services requiring a final reevaluation of the client.
OTA Role in Discharge
Assisting with a portion of the client's final reevaluation during termination of treatment.
OT Role in Discharge
Writing the final discharge summary based on the information gathered during reevaluation.
Figure 4.4 (page 53)
An example of a treatment plan that OTA's may use to help develop a treatment/intervention plan for a client.
Pages 54-56
Textbook section elaborating on the extended treatment plan guide for OTA's.
Referral/Screening
The initial step in the OT process prior to evaluation.
Targeted Outcomes
The final stage in the OT process following intervention.
Factors Influencing Treatment Method Selection
Patient goals, problems, assets, life roles, needs, values, and environment or context.
