Venous Insufficiency/Reflux Duplex Exam
A diagnostic procedure using Doppler ultrasound to evaluate blood circulation in the superficial and deep veins of the legs, check for blood clots, and examine the direction of blood flow.

Transducer
A device passed lightly across the limbs and pressed firmly against the skin by the sonographer to image and evaluate superficial and deep veins.
Doppler Ultrasound
The imaging technique used in venous insufficiency studies to evaluate blood circulation, detect blood clots, and monitor blood flow direction.
Sonographer
The healthcare professional who performs the exam by applying gel, pressing and moving the transducer over the area of interest, and capturing images.
Audible Signals in Doppler Exams
Pulse-like sounds that change in pitch, which patients may hear during the procedure as blood flow is monitored and measured.
Pre-Exam Patient Preparation Instructions
Guidelines requiring patients to arrive 15 minutes early for registration, wear two-piece clothing and comfortable shoes, bring a medication list, and allow 1.5 hours for the study.
Wound Care Dressing Protocol
The policy requiring patients with wound care dressings to schedule a visit with their Wound Care doctor following the exam, as technicians are not able to re-wrap dressings.
