Synthesis Reaction
A reaction type where elements or simpler compounds combine to form a single product, such as 2Mg+O2→2MgO.
Metal + Nonmetal Synthesis
A synthesis reaction where a metal and a nonmetal combine to form an ionic compound, such as Ca+S→CaS.
Metallic Oxide + Water Synthesis
A synthesis reaction where a metallic oxide combines with water to produce a metallic hydroxide, such as Li2O+H2O→2LiOH.
Non-Metallic Oxide + Water Synthesis
A synthesis reaction where a non-metallic oxide combines with water to produce an acid, such as CO2+H2O→H2CO3.
Decomposition Reaction
A reaction type where a single compound breaks down into two or more simpler substances, such as 2Ag2O→4Ag+O2.
Decomposition of Simple Ionic Compounds
A decomposition reaction where a simple ionic compound containing 2 elements breaks down into its 2 constituent elements.
Decomposition of a Metallic Carbonate
A reaction where a metallic carbonate is heated to form CO2 and a metallic oxide, such as NiCO3→NiO+CO2.
Decomposition of a Metallic Chlorate
A reaction where a metallic chlorate is heated to decompose into a metallic chloride and oxygen (O2), such as NaClO3→NaCl+O2.
