Chemical Reaction
A process in which one or more substances (reactants) are transformed into new substances (products) by breaking and forming chemical bonds.
Balanced Chemical Equation
A chemical equation in which the number of atoms of each element is equal on both reactant and product sides.
Decomposition Reaction
A chemical reaction in which a single compound breaks down into two or more simpler substances, such as 2H2O2→2H2O+O2.
Single Displacement Reaction
A chemical reaction where one element replaces another element in a compound, such as Fe+CuSO4→FeSO4+Cu.
Double Displacement Reaction
A chemical reaction in which two compounds exchange ions to form two new compounds, such as Pb(NO3)2+2KI→PbI2+2KNO3.
Combination Reaction
A reaction where two or more substances combine to form a single new substance, such as 2H2+O2→2H2O.
Neutralisation Reaction
A chemical reaction between an acid and a base that produces a salt and water, such as HCl+NaOH→NaCl+H2O.
Combustion Reaction
A chemical reaction where a substance reacts with oxygen releasing carbon dioxide, water, and energy, such as CH4+2O2→CO2+2H2O+Energy.
Saturated Compound
A hydrocarbon that contains only single carbon-carbon bonds, such as methane (CH4) or ethane (C2H6).
