Purpose of FFA
Analyse forces for (driving) and against change (restraining) in an organisation.
Change occurs if driving forces are greater than restraining forces.
Steps of FFA
Identify change
List driving and restraining forces
Score forces 1-5 to show strength and construct a diagram to visualise the results
Analyse the results in order to decide where it not to proceed with proposed change
Advantages and Disadvantages of FFA
Advantages:
Simple and visual - easy to understand.
Helps identify barriers and plan how to overcome them.
Disadvantages:
Subjective - force scoring can biased
Static - doesn’t show how forces change over time
Focuses on current situation, not long term impact.
Evaluation of FFA
Effectiveness depends on quality of data (suitability, breadth, depth) and accuracy of interpretation.
Intuitive thinking and management bias can skew results, reducing objectivity.
Outcomes directly impact the success of strategic plan implementation and organizational change.
