Probability
The likelihood or chance that a specific event will occur.
Law of Large Numbers
The principle that as an event is repeated, the actual results will more closely match the expected probability.
Meiosis
The process of cell division that reduces the chromosome number by half, leading to the formation of gametes.
Gamete Formation
The process by which alleles segregate during meiosis, allowing for genetic variation in offspring.
Mendel’s Law of Segregation
Each gamete randomly receives one allele from each parent.
Punnett Square
A diagram that is used to predict the genotype outcome of a genetic cross.
PP Genotype
Homozygous dominant genotype, which results in a 100% chance of gametes having the dominant allele.
Pp Genotype
Heterozygous genotype, resulting in a 50% chance of producing either P or p alleles during gamete formation.
pp Genotype
Homozygous recessive genotype, which results in a 0% chance of gametes having the dominant allele.
Fertilization
The process where male and female gametes combine to form a new organism.
