All: Welcome to the play Pressure
We are Tell Your Story Productions! Our play is based on a true-life story that occurred in 2017 in the United Kingdom.
My name is Lily-Faye and I will be playing the narrator, but also Daniel’s friend Emily.
Tell your story!
Isa: But could you identify the signs of someone suffering exam stress?
Do you want to know the signs of exam pressure?
Daniel: I need to get better than last time! I can’t disappoint them again.
You’re selfish for caring about your grade over me and Jamie.
Daniel: I just don’t know what else to do I’m sorry mom.
I bet you’re all wondering what happened to Daniel that made his life reach this point. Well, let me take you back to the day before this happened, a few weeks before this all occurred, and show you what led to this point and how it could have been prevented.
Jamie: I bet I could get this in before you can!
This was a time in Daniel’s life where he was just a normal teenager, having fun like any other would.
Jamie: Hey, that’s not fair! Give it back, Dan!
Oh, come on, Jamie, don’t be a sore loser!
Daniel: The bell’s about to go.
Okay! Let’s go and head to class.
Mom: Love you too, sweetpea! Don’t stay up too late.
Next day, Daniel makes his way to school.
Jamie: So… we get our mock results back today…
Oh, don’t remind me…
Jamie: You got an ‘A’ last time.
Daniel: Yeah?
And you want to do better than that?
Daniel: I need to get full marks, otherwise my future will be rubbish.
Jamie never gets higher than a D.
Jamie: I got a D-plus last time, actually.
Ooooooo, best mark yet!
Jamie: Yeah, I guess so :)
(Looking at watch) Well, time to head off to our next class
Mr John: I need to inform her. This will affect your summer predictions.
Daniel: Yes, sir
After class, Daniel was upset and went to see the school counsellor.
Counsellor: You’ll be fine. Just keep working as hard as you can.
Remember the Daniel you all saw at the start? This is where his life and relationships with others begins to fall apart.
Jamie: Hey Dan! Coming to play some footie with us?
(Texting on phone)Yeah, come on, Dan! Come to play!
Daniel: Can’t. I need to study.
(Texting on phone)All you do is study lately. It’s a bit much.
Jamie: Yeah, mate, give it a rest. You have ages!
(Texting on phone) All because you got a B-plus.
Daniel: Yes, it is because I got a B-plus, and Jamie, just because I’m focusing on school doesn’t mean you can comment on it. Just let me study peacefully!
Hey Dan! What is your problem?!
You don’t need to shut yourself up just because of one grade.
Daniel: Just both of you leave me alone!
Emily/Jamie: Harsh!
Daniel: I don’t want to talk with you. I don’t want to see you. I never want to hang out with you again!
You… you can’t be serious, Daniel!
Daniel: I’ll do what I want, you prick.
All we did was care for you, but you’re just a snake!
Daniel: I can’t handle this anymore!
You’re selfish for caring about your grade over me and Jamie.
