Transpiration
The process by which water in the form of water vapour is lost from the aerial parts of the plant.
Effect of Transpiration on Cell Sap Concentration
Transpiration lowers the concentration of water in the cell sap.
Root Hair Function
Water from the soil passes through the semipermeable membrane of the root hair into the root hair cell.
Water Diffusion in Roots
Water diffuses from the root hair into the cortical cell when the cortical cell has a lower concentration of water molecules.
Flaccid Root Hair
A condition where the root hair becomes limp due to the loss of water.
Cell to Cell Osmosis
The process by which water moves from the soil into the root hair, then into the cortical cells, and finally to the xylem vessels.
Xylem Vessels
The structures in plants that transport water absorbed by the roots.
Endodermis
The innermost layer of the cortex in plant roots that regulates the movement of water into the xylem.
