Coelomates
Animals possessing a true fluid-filled body cavity that is completely lined with tissue derived from mesoderm, providing cushioned space for complex internal organ systems to grow, differentiate, and function independently of the outer body wall.
hemocoel
A fluid-filled body cavity found in some invertebrates, particularly arthropods, that is not fully lined with mesoderm. It serves as a hydrostatic skeleton and facilitates circulation.
protostomes
Animals in which the mouth develops from the initial embryonic opening (blastopore) during embryonic development. This group includes arthropods and mollusks.
Nitrogenous waste
wastes are byproducts of protein metabolism, typically excreted as ammonia, urea, or uric acid, depending on the organism's habitat and physiology.
Nephridia
are excretory organs found in some invertebrates, such as annelids, that remove nitrogenous wastes from the body.
dorsal heart
is a type of heart found in some invertebrates, characterized by its position along the back (dorsal side) of the organism, often involved in circulating blood.
radula
is a unique feeding organ found in many mollusks, consisting of a chitinous ribbon with rows of tiny teeth used to scrape food from surfaces.
dorsal brain
The main nervous system control center which processes sensory inputs and coordinates movement along nerve cords.
Nerve ring
A circular band of nervous tissue that encircles the pharynx or esophagus in invertebrates such as mollusks and echinoderms, serving as a central component of the nervous system to connect nerve cords and process sensory inputs.
Ventral nerve cord
