Vocabulary terms covering the stages, cellular locations, and key outcomes of cellular respiration.
Glycolysis
The stage of cellular respiration that occurs in the cytoplasm, splits glucose, and yields a net of 2 ATP.
Prep reaction
The stage of cellular respiration located in the mitochondrial matrix in eukaryotic cells where pyruvate is converted, producing CO2 and NADH.
Krebs/citric acid cycle
The stage of cellular respiration occurring in the mitochondrial matrix that releases CO2 and produces NADH, FADH2, and ATP.
Electron transport chain
The stage of cellular respiration located in the inner mitochondrial membrane that produces the most ATP.
Passive transport
Substances move down their concentration gradient from higher transport to LOWER transport.
Active Transport
Cell uses energy to move substances against their concentration gradient - from
lower to HIGHER concentration. (Requires energy) (passive does not)
