Emergency Response Plan

A prepared plan that includes an emergency coordinator, calls list, facility maps, product storage lists, and emergency equipment.

Three C's of Spill Management

Control, Contain, Clean up.

Control (in spill management)

Identifying and removing the source of the spill.

Contain (in spill management)

Using absorbent materials or other means to prevent spread of the spill.

Clean up (in spill management)

Placing materials in a leak proof container after a spill.

Fire Hazard Reduction

Practices such as storing pesticides away from heat sources and installing fire detection.

Spill Kit Location

Should be kept wherever pesticides are stored.

Items to include in a spill kit

Emergency contact info, PPE, absorbent materials, shovel, broom, dustpan, sweeping compound, detergent, sturdy storage container.

Local Authorities to Contact for Pesticide Spill

Call 911, local sheriff, city police, fire department, and report to the Emergency Response and Homeland Security Unit.

Pesticide Storage Precautions

Store pesticides away from steam lines or heating systems and avoid sunlight exposure.
