Element Square Data
Each square of the periodic table includes an element's atomic number, chemical symbol, name, and atomic mass.
Atomic Number
The number of protons or electrons in an atom; shown at the top of an element's square on the periodic table.
Neutrons Calculation
Formula used to find the number of neutrons: Neutrons=Atomic mass (rounded!)−Atomic number.

Subatomic Particle Charges
Protons have a positive charge (+\), Neutrons have a neutral charge (0), and Electrons have a negative charge (-\).
Nucleus
The central location in an atom where protons and neutrons are located.
Atomic Mass
The full mass value of an element including decimals; only rounded when used in equations like finding neutrons.
Valence Electrons
Electrons located in the outermost shell (ring) of an atom.
Chemical Symbol
The abbreviated letters used to represent an element on the periodic table, such as Fe for Iron.
Oxygen (Slide Example)
As noted in the lecture, Oxygen has 10 total electrons and 6 valence electrons.
