Gantt Chart
A project management tool that provides a timeline view of a project in the form of bars on a chart, showing what tasks need to be done, when they start and finish, and how they relate to one another.
Henry Gantt
An American mechanical engineer (1861–1919) who invented the Gantt chart between 1910 and 1915.
Task Dependencies
Relationships between project tasks where one task can only start after another finishes (for example, Task B can only start after Task A finishes).
Project Monitoring (using Gantt Charts)
The process of using a Gantt chart to verify if a project is on schedule, determine what tasks should be finished by the current time, and decide on corrective actions if delays happen.
Milestone Charts
Charts that can be combined with Gantt charts to improve the tracking and visibility of project schedules.
PERT Charts
Alternative project management tools noted for showing detailed task dependencies better than Gantt charts.
Modern Digital Gantt Tools
Interactive software platforms such as Microsoft Project, Trello with Gantt plugins, Asana, Monday.com, and ClickUp that enable drag-and-drop scheduling, automatic updates, and online collaboration.
