Law in Literature
The study of law, legal thinking, and the influence of law on society through its appearances in literature and media
Narrative
The representation of an event or series of events
Constituent event

Nonreferential narrative
creates the world to which it refers by referring to it
Can refer to the real world, but it is not necessary
does not refer to or attempt to mirror the real world
References to the real world do not need to be truthful or accurate
Referential narrative
A story that has an anchor in reality
subject to judgments of truth or falsity
verifiable and incomplete
cannot claim to know what is going on in the head of a character
Narrativity
The set of qualities marking a narrative; the sense that someone is telling a story, giving a performance, etc.
Law as Language
Law is a way of reading, writing, and speaking
It is a way of maintaining a specific culture (one of argument)
ideal reader
Someone who understands the text in its cultural and political context and has an understanding of the major purposes of the text.
Narrative jurisprudence
law as a form of storytelling and narrative practice
Canon Law
set of ordinances and regulations made by ecclesiastical authority to govern a Christian organization and its members

The study of narrative, narrative structure. and how stories communicate meaning
