what are the Tests used for the Vascular Platelet Phase of Hemostasis
- Bleeding Time (BT)
- Platelets count
- Capillary Fragility Test
- Clot Retraction Test
s a useful tool to test for platelet plug formation and capillary integrity. ordered on a patient scheduled for surgery.
Bleeding time (BT)
prolonged bleeding time may be a result from
- thrombocytopenia
- impaired blood vessels.
Bleeding time is affected by
- platelet function
- certain vascular disorders
- von Willebrand Disease
Diseases that cause prolonged bleeding time include
- thrombocytopenia
- DIC
- vWF
- hypofibrinogenemia
- Aspirin and other cyclooxygenase inhibitors
Platelet Count can be determined by improved Neubauer’s counting chamber by using
1% ammonium oxalate
Surgical bleeding usually does not occur until the platelet count is less than
50 000
Spontaneous bleeding does not occur until the platelet count is less than
10,000-20,000
It is a clinical diagnostic method to determine a patient's hemorrhagic tendency. and assesses fragility of capillary walls
Capillary Fragility Test
one of the necessary requisites for diagnosis of Dengue fever. the test is positive if there are 10 or more petechiae per square inch
Capillary Fragility Test
This test measures time needed for contraction of an undisturbed clot. It indicates function & number of platelets.
Clot Retraction Test
the contractile proteins that measured in Clot Retraction Test
- actin
- myosin
- thrombasthenin
It is the time taken from the puncture of the blood vessel to the formation of a fibrin thread.
clotting time (CT)
what are the method of CT test
- . Capillary Glass Tube Method
- Lee & White method
a test measure the efficacy of both the intrinsic and the common pathways. Also used to monitor the treatment effects with heparin
Activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT)
Activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) was named
Kaolin cephalin clotting time
In APTT test to activate the intrinsic pathway add phospholipid, an activator such as[..] to reverse the citrate
silica, celite, kaolin, ellagic acid and calcium
the time it takes plasma to clot after addition of tissue factor (obtained from animals). This measures the quality of the extrinsic pathway as well as the common pathway of coagulation
Prothrombin time (PT)
They are used to determine the clotting tendency of blood, in the measure of warfarin dosage, liver damage and vitamin K status. also it measures extrinsic factors I, II, V, VII and X
Prothrombin time (PT)
Warfarin, sold under the brand name
Coumadin
