1/8
A set of vocabulary flashcards reviewing plant tissues, cell specialisation, leaf adaptations, and plant transport systems from lesson B15 L10.
Meristem tissue
Tissue found in root and shoot tips that can differentiate into specialised cells.
Leaves
Plant organs adapted to carry out photosynthesis.
Epidermal tissues
Plant leaf tissues that form a waxy cuticle which protects the leaf.
Palisade mesophyll tissue
Plant leaf tissue containing extra chloroplasts for photosynthesis.
Spongy mesophyll tissue
Plant leaf tissue that has large air spaces between cells with a large surface area for rapid diffusion of gases.
Guard cells
Specialised cells in a plant leaf that open and close stomata.
Stomata
Structures in a plant leaf that can open and close to control the diffusion of gases in to, and out of, the leaf.
Xylem tissue
Specialised plant transport tissue that transports water and dissolved minerals around the plant in one direction, from roots to leaves.
Phloem tissue
Specialised plant transport tissue in leaves and stems that transports dissolved sugars around the plant.
