General Survey
A study of the whole person that includes assessment of physical appearance, body structure, mobility, and behavior.
Physical Appearance
An area of objective data in a general survey that includes age, sex, level of consciousness, skin color, facial features, and overall appearance.
Body Structure
An area of objective data in a general survey that includes stature, nutrition, symmetry, posture, position, and body build or contour.
Weight Measurement Protocol
A measurement procedure where the person removes shoes and heavy outer clothing before standing on a scale, aiming for the same time of day and clothing type when sequence of repeated weights is necessary, recorded in kilograms and pounds.
Height Measurement Protocol
A measurement procedure using a wall-mounted device or measuring pole on a scale, aligning the extended headpiece with top of the head while the person is shoeless, standing straight, looking straight ahead, with feet and shoulders on a hard surface.
Body Mass Index (BMI)
A practical marker of optimal weight for height and an indicator of obesity or protein-calorie malnutrition.
