What is ethics?
Tries to study systems as a whole about how things connect (right vs wrong)
What are dilemmas?
Hard moral conflicting problem usually from differing principles
What are values?
Judgements of what we should or shouldn’t do (make decisions BASED on value)
What is justification?
Reasoning for things that make actions right and wrong
What is Unitarianism?
Peter singer, the right thing to do is the right that that produces the most good and least harm (evaluate actions based on outcome)
What is deontology?
Study of duty, about the choice itself NOT outcome
What is virtue ethics?
The right thing to do is what an admirable person would do
What is casuistry approach?
Case based reasoning, thinking through based on what you’ve already seen
What is principlism?
How most bioethical decisions are made, most important in our culture (autonomy, self determination, values are not the same between nurse and patient)
