Vocabulary flashcards covering the names, formulas, charge states, and classifications of common transition metal complex ligands.
Monodentate ligand
A ligand that binds to a metal center using only one donor atom.
Polydentate ligand
A ligand that binds to a metal center using multiple donor atoms.
Ambidentate ligand
A ligand (such as NO2− and SCN−) that can coordinate through different atoms, where the specific name indicates which atom bonds to the metal.
