Set
A collection of well-defined objects, ideas, or numbers.
Elements (∈)
The objects, ideas, or numbers in a set.
Ellipses (…)
The three dots used to denote infinity or suggest elements between two other elements in a set.
Finite Set
A set that contains a countable number of elements and terminates at a certain object, idea, or number.
Infinite Set
A set that contains an endless number of elements.
Empty Set / Null Set
A set with no elements, denoted by ∅ or "{}".
Singleton
A set with only one member.
Equal Sets
Two or more sets that contain the same elements.
Equivalent Sets
Sets that have the same number of elements.
Cardinality of Set
The number of distinct elements in a finite set, denoted by n(A) or |A|.
Universal Set
A set that contains all the elements considered in a particular situation, denoted by the capital letter "U".
Subset
A set whose elements belong to another set or the universal set, denoted by "⊆".
Proper Subset
A subset that is not equal to the original set, denoted by "⊂".
Descriptive Form
Presenting a set by defining the rules that generate or define its members.
Roster Method
Presenting a set by listing all its members separated by commas and enclosed in braces.
Set-Builder Notation
Presenting a set by stating the characteristics or properties of its elements.
Union of Sets
An operation for combining two or more sets to form a new set that contains all the elements from the original sets.
Intersection of Sets
An operation for finding the common elements between two or more sets to form a new set.
Complement of a Set
An operation on a set that refers to the elements that do not belong to the set.
