Organisation
Living things become increasingly ordered-complex as they combine their simple components
Tissue
A group of similar cells modified to carry out a specific function
Organ
a group of tissues that work together to carry out one or more functions
organ system
a group of organs working together to carry out one or more functions
Response
the ability of an Organism to react to change (stimulus) in their environment
Respiration
the release of energy from glucose
nutrition
the way in which organisms obtain their food
Autotrophs
make their food eg: plants
heterotrophs
can't make food they consume it eg: humans
Excretion
the removal of waste products of metabolism from the body eg: urine sweat
Reproduction
The process by which an Organism gives rise to a new Organism of the same kind
Growth
an Organism increases in size throughout its lifecycle
Growth and reproduction in Unicellular organisms
a unicellular organism grows in size and forms new organelles before it reproduces an identical copy of itself by all division (mitosis)
Growth and reproduction in multicellular organisms
a multi cellular Organism grows new cells which become more different as the Organism gets larger
Metabolism
the sum of all the chemical reactions in the body of an Organism
what are the two types of metabolic reaction?
anabolic
catabolic
Anabolic
a reaction in which small simple molecules combine to form more complex ones eg: Respiration, Digestion
Catabolic
a reaction in which a large complex molecule is broken down into simpler ones usually with the energy being released
