Instep
The inside of a person's foot that is used for dribbling and shooting the soccer ball
Goal Kick
a kick after the ball goes out over the goal line when the opposing team is the last to touch the ball.
Corner Kick
a kick after the ball goes out over the goal line when the defensive team is the last to touch the ball.
Kick off
used to start the game or after a goal is scored at the middle of the field. The ball must be kicked or rolled forward. Defense must stay back 10 yards (outside the center circle
Throw In
Used when the ball travels out of bounds on the sidelines by the team that didn’t touch the ball last
Two hands over the head throw in which both feet must stay in contact with the ground

Off-sides
When an attacking player is behind the last player of defense without the ball
Hand-Ball
when a player uses his/her hands/arms to stop the ball – Results in a free kick for the opposing team from the spot of the infraction
Dribble
A succession of short kicks to move from one place to the next.
Goalie
player who guards the goal. When they stop the ball, it is called a save. Only player who can legally touch the ball with his/her hands in the penalty area.
Defensemen
players who play on their third of the field to stop players on the attack trying to score.
Midfielders
are players whose position of play is midway between the attacking strikers and the defenders. Their main duties are to maintain possession of the ball, taking the ball from defenders and feeding it to the strikers. They are always running and active.
Forwards
the players on a team in the row nearest to the opposing team's goal and best scorers.
Goal Box
The small box in front of the goal within which the ball must be placed to take a goal kick. (The ball can also be placed on the line).
Penalty Box
The large box in front of the goal in which the goalkeeper can touch the ball with their hands. If any offensive penalties happen in this area, it will result in a penalty kick.
Penalty Box Arc
The half circle at the top of this box is the Penalty Box Arc. No one is allowed in this arc while a penalty kick is being taken.
Center Circle
Circle in the center of the field; 10 yard radius for high school. On a kick off, defenders must stay outside this until the ball is moved by the kicker
sideline (touchline)
The whole ball must cross the sideline (touchline) to be considered out of bounds
goal line
The whole ball must cross the goal line to be considered a goal
Passing/Kicking
Place non-dominant foot next to or a little behind the ball, contact with laces or instep of dominate foot and follow through in a sweeping motion towards the target
Dribbling
Contact with laces or instep of foot, keep ball close and look up.
Trapping
Move behind the ball, absorb the force, bottom of foot and soft touch.
Throw-In
Keep both feet behind the line, keep both feet on the ground (back foot may drag), two hands and directly overhead.
