Period
The time it takes for a wave to complete one cycle.
Frequency
The number of cycles of a wave that occur in one second.
Amplitude
The 'bigness' or magnitude of a wave, measured from the average value to the maximum value.
Power
The rate of energy transfer in a wave; the amount of work performed per unit time.
Intensity
The concentration of energy in a sound beam, calculated as power per unit area.
Wavelength
The distance or length of one complete cycle of a wave.
Speed
The rate at which a sound wave travels through a medium.
Infrasound
Sound waves with frequencies less than 20 Hz, inaudible to humans.
Audible sound
Sound waves that can be heard by humans, typically between 20 Hz and 20 kHz.
Ultrasound
Sound waves with frequencies higher than 20 kHz, inaudible to humans.
Reciprocal relationship
The relationship between period and frequency where if one increases, the other decreases.
