Involuntary audience members are usually made up of people who are different in a variety of ways.
Voluntary audience members gather because they want to hear the speech, attend the event, or participate in an event.
Know the characteristics of voluntary and involuntary audiences?
Attitudes: a feeling of approval or disapproval of a person, group idea or event
Values: are principles that serve as personal guidelines for behavior(Free speech/screaming bomb)
Beliefs: mental acceptance that something is true even when we cannot prove that its true
Needs: a state in which an unsatisfied condition exist
Difference between attitudes, values, beliefs and needs?
Repetition: Simply repeating a word or series of words in successive clauses or sentences
Alliteration: Repetition of consonants usually the first and last letter in the word.(Smart, Students, Study)
Parallelism: Similarly phrased ideas presented in succession ("We will not tire, we will not falter and e will not fail")
Antithesis: Two parallel but contrasting ideas contained within one sentence (1 small step for man, 1 large step for mankind)
Assonance:The repetition of the vowel sound (ex. emeniem)

What should you avoid in order to be clear when you speak?
o Forceful language involves the effectiveness use of volume, emphasis, and pitch. In persuasion it adds to the confidence an audience has in a speaker
What are the components of forceful language?
1) Picture in your mind what your describing to create the mental image for your audience
2)Use the active voice
("I shot the sheriff" opposed to "The sheriff was shot")
How do you create vivid language?
Walter Fisher argues that humans are storytelling beings by nature. We evaluate stories based on two elements, narrative coherence (makes sense to the world we live in) and narrative fidelity(Degree in which the story matches are own beliefs and experiences)
