Equine Passport Silhouette
A drawn diagram in an equine passport where white markings are drawn in red, and the location of whorls and other characteristics are drawn in black.
Equine Passport Narrative
A written description of markings on an equine passport that supports the drawn silhouette.

Hand High (hh)
The traditional unit of measurement for equine height, where one hand equals 4inches, measured from the ground to the highest point of the withers.
Five-Point Body Condition Score
An equine body assessment method where three body regions are scored out of five, then added and divided by three to yield an overall score.
Nine-Point Body Condition Score
An equine body assessment method where six body regions are scored out of nine, then added and divided by six to yield an overall score.

Equine Visual Blind Areas
The specific regions located directly in front of and directly behind a horse where it cannot see.
Lunging
A form of controlled exercise where a horse moves around a handler in a circle at the end of a lunge line, used for fitness, training, or lameness assessments.

Chifney
An anti-rearing in-hand bit that applies pressure directly to the horse's tongue and bars of the mouth to give the handler greater control.
Nose Twitch
A restraint method involving placing a humane or wooden device on the horse's top lip and applying pressure, ideally applied for no longer than 5minutes.
Neck Twitch
A restraint technique performed by grasping a fold of skin on the horse's neck and twisting it to temporarily immobilize the horse.
Stable Rug
A non-waterproof rug designed to keep a horse warm while inside the stable.
Turnout Rug
A waterproof rug used on horses in the field to protect them from weather elements.

Surcingles
Belly straps on an equine rug that cross underneath to secure the rug in place.

Tail Bandage
A wrap applied to a horse's tail to protect it during transit/competition or keep it clean during medical procedures, which must not be left on for more than 3hours.
