WOODMAN 2-1
The item that candidates are required to carry to all Candidate Program events.
Candidate Class Flight Commander
The officer in command of the candidate class during class activities and responsible for class continuity each week.
Candidate Class Deputy Flight Commander
The officer responsible for candidate class accountability and assisting the Class Commander with candidate activities.
Candidate Class Academic Officer
The officer responsible for academic preparedness of all candidates each week and contacting candidates to ensure they study for weekly quizzes.
Candidate Class Standardization Officer
The officer maintaining overall dress, appearance, customs, and courtesies standards for the candidate class, while ensuring correct Memo format and class protocol.
Candidate Class Drill and Ceremonies Officer
The officer who ensures correct drill and ceremonies procedures are followed and practiced for all D&C matters such as ORI, IDE, Reveille, and Retreat.
Special Candidate Wingmen
A rotating position consisting of two candidates who look after and carry the special candidate everywhere the class goes.
Candidate Class Physical Fitness Officer
The officer in charge of leading the class during PT sessions under the supervision of the DOT.
Candidate Class Safety Officer
The officer responsible for candidate well-being (checking hydration and tucked laces) who carries the first aid kit during all PT sessions.
Candidate Class Operations Officer
The officer responsible for ensuring the completion of all projects in that command level and serving as a link between project officers and staff.
MFR 001
A memorandum dated August 2025 from the National Commander that overrides all candidacy requirements until further notice.

A professional, honorary, service organization advocating the support of aerospace power.

The official flower for Arnold Air Society.
AAS White Color Meaning
Represents the purity of our intent.
AAS Red Color Meaning
Symbolizes shed blood of Americans fighting for freedom.
AAS Blue Color Meaning
The color of the sky in which we fly.
AAS Gold Color Meaning
Represents the wings with which we fly and warrior courage.
AAS Symbol
A pair of gold wings and a white star with a red ball in the center, above a blue ribbon bearing the inscription “Arnold Air Society.”
Fourragere
A blue and gold braided cord worn around the left shoulder of the service coat or hooked around the left shoulder epaulet button for short sleeve blues, with gold braids outside and blue braids inside.
Rank Pin
A badge composed of the Arnold Air Society Symbol and rank insignia between gold wings, worn 1/2 inch above the nametag.
Candidate Pin
A circular pin with a white star and a cardinal ball in the center, worn 1/2 inch above the nametag.
Active Membership (AAS)
Membership granted to AFROTC cadets who completed the pledge program, paid all dues, and remain in good standing with the squadron.
Inactive Membership (AAS)
Membership granted to members who wish to remain inactive while maintaining good standing and paying National dues.
Associate Membership (AAS)
Membership granted to members of Silver Wings and members of affiliated AAS associations.
Honorary Membership (AAS)
Awarded to individuals not eligible for regular membership who have contributed greatly to the Society.
Joint National Project (JNP)
A yearly service project shared by all AAS squadrons, currently focusing on Suicide Awareness and Prevention.
Maryland Cup
Award for Outstanding Large Squadron, sponsored by the Frank P. Lahm Squadron of the University of Maryland.
Badley Cup
Award for Outstanding Medium Squadron, sponsored by the Captain Frank S. Hagan Squadron of Louisiana State University.
Chennault Trophy
Award for Outstanding Small Squadron, sponsored by the General Emmett O’Donnell Squadron of Louisiana Tech University.
Eagle Award
Award presented to the squadron contributing most to civic affairs, sponsored by the Eagle Squadron of the University of Puerto Rico at Rio Piedras.
Lyndon Baines Johnson Cup
The LBJ Cup presented to the squadron with the most outstanding candidate program, sponsored by the Colonel Andrew J. Dougherty Squadron of RIT.
National Honorary Commander
The highest tribute AAS can extend to a person as an active member of AAS.
H. H. Arnold Sabre
Award presented annually to the most outstanding region Commander.
AAS Silver Medallion
Awarded to AAS squadron advisors for distinguished leadership in connection with AAS activities (Outstanding Squadron Advisor).
AAS Gold Medallion
Award presented to the Outstanding Region Advisor.
Commander (CC)
Staff position responsible for making sure the command level effectively and efficiently pursues the mission of the Society.
Vice Commander (CV)
Second in command who assumes command in the absence of the commander and manages lower staff positions activities.
Chief of Protocol (COP)
Staff position responsible for enforcing rules and regulations of the AASMAN throughout the squadron.
Operations Officer (DO)
Staff position responsible for ensuring completion of all projects in the command level and serving as a link between project officers and staff.
Information Management Officer (IM)
Staff position responsible for all information, forms, correspondence, taking meeting minutes, and keeping attendance.
Financial Management Officer (FM)
Staff position responsible for budgeting, collecting dues, keeping financial records, and handling transactions.
Public Affairs Officer (PA)
Staff position responsible for keeping members informed and managing command level publicity.
Director of Training (DOT)
Staff position responsible for preparing recruits to become members and maintaining overall responsibility for the candidate class.
Candidate Training Officer (CTO)
Staff position assisting the DOT in preparing/executing the candidate class, usually becoming the next semester's DOT for continuity.
Support Officer (DS)
Staff position responsible for assisting other staff members in day-to-day operations of the Society.
Joint Relations Officer (JRO)
Staff position responsible for coordinating with affiliate organizations such as SW, AFA, and JROTC.
