Red Bone Marrow
Inside the spongy bone (little open circles is where it is ); only where there is space

Articular (Hyaline) Cartilage
On the outside top and bottom parts of a bone so on each end of the bone

Cancellous (Spongy) Bone
Open little circles; inside the ends of the bones

Epiphyseal line (or disk)/ growth plate
thick or thin line inside the proximal (top) and distal (end) epiphysis

Compact Bone
frames the space; in the diaphysis part of the bone; between the epiphyseal line and diaphysis; very thick around shaft

Endosteum
lining (membrane)-loaded w/osteoblasts; inside diaphysis

Sharpey’s fibers
short collagen fibers, anchors blood vessels, “staples” holding the membrane to bone

Medullary Cavity
space; it is lined by the endosteum

Yellow Bone Marrow
holds adipose (fat) tissue; cylinder-looking; below medullary cavity

periosteum
lining (membrane) loaded w/osteoblasts to heal any damage; on the shaft (diaphysis)

Nutrient Artiery
Vein

Nutrient Foramen
a hole; found at middle top end and bottom end of bone

Osteoblasts
build bone; young bone cells
Osteocytes
old bone cells; maintain bone cells
Osteoclasts
break down bone
Proximal Epiphysis
top end part of bone (closest to the head)
Diaphysis
middle part of bone; between the proximal and distal epiphysis
Distal Epiphysis
bottom end part of bone (farther from head)
