Laplace's Law
Formulated as P=r2T
Anatomical Dead Space (VD)
Approximated by the rule of thumb VD≈1mL×ideal body weight (kg)
Total Lung Capacity (TLC)
Expressed as TLC=RV+ERV+TV+IRV
Boyle's Law
P,V, = P2P2
Charles's Law
Stated as T1V1=T2V2

Expressed as Ptotal=P1+P2+P3+…
Normal Barometric Pressure (PB)
The standard atmospheric pressure at sea level, equal to 760mmHg.
Atmospheric Oxygen (O2)
Makes up 21% of dry atmospheric air at sea level, exerting a partial pressure of 159.6mmHg.
Atmospheric Nitrogen (N2)
Makes up 78.08% of dry atmospheric air at sea level, exerting a partial pressure of 592.8mmHg.
Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
Makes up 0.03% of dry atmospheric air at sea level, exerting a partial pressure of 0.2mmHg.
Water Vapor Pressure (PH2O)
Equal to 47mmHg at standard body temperature (37∘C); varies with temperature and is subtracted when calculating partial pressures of fully humidified alveolar gases.
Normal Resting Blood Gas Pressures
Standard normal physiological values at rest: alveolar PAO2=100mmHg, arterial PaCO2=40mmHg, venous PvO2=40mmHg, and venous PvCO2=46mmHg.
