Where do you work?
I work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
What is your current occupation at MIT?
I am a professor of computer science.
And what is it that you teach as a professor of computer science?
I teach about artificial intelligence, machine learning, predictive modeling, and model evaluation
Could you describe any contributions you have made to computer science?
I have published over 30 articles about machine learning, predictive systems, model validation and algorithmic reliability
How long have you worked with machine learning and predictive systems?
Over 15 years
What does your educational background consist of?
I received my bachelors in computer science and mathematics from Northeastern University, and I received my Ph.D in computer science from MIT
Have you testified as an expert prior to today?
I have, specifically regarding the reliability of AI and machine learning system
What have you mainly tried to accomplish with AI as an expert on it?
My research leads AI to help people make better decisions with limitations and large consequences to inaccuracy
What do you know about GO OR NO GO, the AI system Dean Chalmers used to decide when Step Ahead Day should be held?
One of my PhD students created one of the earliest models of the GO OR NO GO system. The research he did showed that the tool was most useful when allowed a user to test practical changes as opposed to simply stating if something was safe or unsafe.
What do you know about the accuracy of the system’s output made from these practical changes?
The weather outputs are as accurate as they can be, as it chooses the most accurate weather data
Are you prepared to testify on your expert opinion of Dean Chalmers’ usage of GO OR NO GO?
How did you prepare yourself to testify?
What did you find from the GO OR NO GO data?
What did you find from other witness testimonies?
So, in your expert opinion, did Dean Chalmers reasonably rely upon the system to schedule the Step Ahead Day on June 7, 2024?
